Participation is easy, ubiquitous, and very powerful. The obvious difference from citizenship in society is the lack of face to face contact. This is something that we still need to stress with our students, since communication in person will always be a valued and essential skill. Many people are fretting over the lack of personal communication as a result of the web and technology, but that's the direction of communities (of all levels) are heading.
